Shop with a Cop/Firefighter
Sunday, December 13th, 2009On Sunday December 13, 2009, the Riverside Police and Fire Department will participate in their annual shop with a cop/firefighter program.
This is the third year Riverside Police Officers and Firefighters have participated in this worthwhile event, which has been able to serve the citizens of Riverside in such a unique fashion. This year Riverside Police Officers and Firefighters will shop with approximately 60 Riverside school age children in an effort to help provide Christmas gifts to those selected for the program. This event will take place on Sunday December 13 at the Wal-Mart Super Store located at 8551 N. Boardwalk in the Northland.
Proceeds to fund this event have been raised throughout the year by the Riverside Fire/Police Athletic League as well as donations from Riverside businesses. One business in particular, the Patriots Bank has elected to donate their Christmas party funds. The employees gave $160.00, with the bank matching that, for a total of $320.00. The Patriots Bank also has a donation container in their lobby for customers to contribute.
Argosy donates $3,500 to Riverside’s Police Athletic League
Wednesday, August 5th, 2009A $3,500 donation from Argosy Casino Hotel & Spa will help Riverside’s Police Athletic League (PAL) reach more area children and teens with expanded youth mentoring activities. Representatives from Argosy presented the donation to the City at last night’s Board of Aldermen meeting.
Through PAL, police and firefighters from Riverside’s public safety department team up to connect with community children and teens by offering free youth activities throughout the year including skate and pool parties; a National Night Out – a fun event that encourages citizens to promote a drug-free and crime-free community; Trunk or Treat and a Kansas City T-Bones baseball game.
According to Riverside Police Chief Greg Mills, the donation will be especially useful because PAL has grown so much and is in need of more resources to support additional PAL programs for a growing number of children and teens who want to get involved.
Argosy is dedicated with its “hearts and hands” to assisting with the improvement of quality of life for individuals throughout Kansas City and supporting programs in Kansas City and nearby communities.
