What’s Cooking in Riverside

Head out to Riverside this weekend on Saturday, June 20 for the first annual Riverside BBQ Blast Off.  This FREE event will feature a backyard BBQ contest, live music by the KC All Stars, Brody Buster and M80’s, inflatables, kids firework safety workshops, food and beer tents and a fireworks show over the Missouri River!  Visit the BBQ Blast Web site for event details and the complete schedule.

Want to get some bang for your buck while you’re in town?  Saturday is also the first day you can buy fireworks in Riverside.  Stop by the BBQ Blast Off first to visit firework vendor tents for coupons and other free goodies.

4 Person Golf Scramble

Mark your calendars now for the 5th Annual Riverside Chamber of Commerce and Riverside Police Athletic League Four-Person Scramble Golf Tournament.  The Tournament takes place on Monday, July 6 at the National II Golf Course in Parkville, Mo.  The registration fee is $100 per person (before June 22) and includes green fees, golf cart, drink tickets, continental breakfast, box lunch and Hawg’s BBQ after the tournament.  Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a shot-gun start at 10 a.m.  Prizes will be awarded for the longest drive, closest to the pin and recognition for winners in flights A and B.

The Butler Did It

The City of Riverside’s very own Donna Resz took a break from her day job as Finance Director to take a part in Fair Based Production’s most recent show, The Butler Did It.  The production took place at the Riverside Community Center March 27 and 28 and April 3 and 4.  Great job to all of the actors!

BBQ Blast Off Entry Forms Now Available

Entry forms for the Backyard BBQ Contest and Softball Tournament, both part of Riverside’s first annual BBQ Blast Off event on June 20, are now available online.

Entry Form & Rules

The Backyard BBQ Contest, coordinated by Backyard Bash, is open to the first 30 teams to register.  This is an amateur contest so teams that have won a cash prize in a sanctioned event are not eligible.  Teams will cook in three categories: ribs, chicken and “anything but,” and prizes will be awarded to the grand champion (Doug Goodwin Open Range Grill), reserve champion (Weber Performance Grill), and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category ($200, $100 and $50 gift certificatse to local businesses, respectively).

Softball Tournament

Entry Form & Rules

Co-ed softball tournament open to anyone!  Games start at 9 a.m. on June 20 and will be an hour long.  The championship will be at 1:00 p.m.  Teams will be notified of their game time closer to the event date.
