Riverside City Government

Welcome to the City of Riverside. As you visit our site you will find that Riverside's fiercely independent spirit has allowed us to maintain our own identity as Kansas City has grown up around us. And, our pioneering spirit keeps us ever moving forward as we continuously work to better our community.

Riverside has a long and rich history. Our 1951 incorporation belies our distant past. From a large, ancient, Indian village to the settlement of our first German pioneers in 1843, Riverside has had the benefit of a prime location - along the beautiful banks of the deep and luminous Missouri River.

Our citizenry is one of people with strong roots and a commitment to the community. We are tenacious, independent and spirited. From our Pride and Progress Committee to our Planning & Zoning Commission to the Riverside Area Chamber of Commerce, we work tirelessly to protect, grow and shape our community.

Mayor Kathy Rose and the Board of Aldermen

Government
The City of Riverside is a Mayor-Council form of government. Both the Mayor and the six Board of Aldermen are elected at-large. The governing board then appoints a City Administrator who is responsible for the enforcement of City codes and policies.

City Council Responsibilities

Enacting ordinances for the proper governing of the City. Approving changes in the Municipal Code, as required. Adopting the annual budget and related financial documents. Establishing other policies as necessary to promote and secure the City and its residents. Appointing the City Administrator. Representing the City to its public and other governmental bodies.

City Council Meetings
The Board of Aldermen meetings are held at the City Hall in the Board of Aldermen chambers on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 7:00pm. All meetings are open to the public and approved minutes and agendas can be viewed online.

A Safe Haven for Newborns

You have a safe choice. Instead of abandoning or putting your baby in danger, hand your baby to someone at a Safe Haven. In Missouri, a person stating they are a parent may leave their baby in the hands of staff at a police station, fire station ambulance station or hospital. In Riverside, the Department of Public Safety, 2990 NW Vivion Road, is a Safe Haven for Newborns. For more information on the program, dial 2-1-1 or 1-866-320-5764.
