How do I get a recycling tub?
Riverside recycle tubs are available FREE from City Hall. One per household please. Contact City Hall at 741-3993 to arrange to pickup your recycling tub.

Can I mix items in my recycling tub?
Yes! For easy recycling you can place all recyclable items in one recycling bin. This is referred to as "One Stream Recycling."

RECYCLING TIPS

Tidiness
To help keep your property and your neighbor's property tidy consider putting your newspapers in a paper grocery bag and placing it on top of the balance of your recycling. This will help prevent items from blowing out.

What plastics to recycle
Here are a few helpful hints about what you can recycle. Plastic is one of the items filling our landfill. Most of it can be collected at curbside. Look for #1 or #2 on the bottom of the container or if the item has a "neck" it can be recycled. Easily recycled items include milk jugs, liter bottles, shampoo bottles and laundry containers. Butter tubs and yogurt cups cannot be accepted at this time. Please be considerate and rinse containers and remove caps.

Other items to recycle
Other items to recycle include newspapers, magazines, junk mail, office paper, telephone books, manila file folders and catalogs, steel and aluminum cans (no aluminum foil or pie plates please), corrugated cardboard and paperboard (cereal boxes).

What cannot be recycled at curbside
Items that cannot be accepted at this time are glass, plastic bags, motor oil, automotive product bottles, margarine or yogurt containers, pesticide/herbicide bottles, household hazardous waste containers, Styrofoam, hot ashes or cinders, shrub trimmings, yard trimmings, tree trunks or limbs, street sweepings, catch basin mulch, construction materials, appliances, large furniture, nothing with Freon or hazardous waste. (Please see our web site section on how to safely dispose of hazardous waste)

How do I properly dispose of bulky items?
Bulky items, including household furniture and equipment, rocks and intact root balls, can be taken to Public Works at 4200 N.W. Riverside, Riverside, MO 64150 and disposed of in the appropriate dumpster.

How do I properly dispose of electronics?
Recycling computers has passed the point of political correctness and reached the point of necessity. Recycling of electronics is available at Computer Recycling Center (CRC), 536 E. Commercial, Springfield, MO 65803. Please call or e-mail them at (417) 866-2588 or computerrecyclingcenter@hotmail.com for details.

CRC recycles mice, keyboards, PCs, printers, scanners, speakers, cell phones, monitors and televisions. A $10.00 disposal fee applies only to monitors and televisions.

Your donations are deductible for income tax purposes. A tax receipt is available upon request. CRC is a NonProfit 501(C)(3) Organization. Through their recycling programs, CRC and you are helping to reduce the amount of waste entering our landfills. For additional information, visit their website at www.computerrecyclingcenter.org.

Between what hours does recycling pickup take place?
Summer hours: 6:30am to 3:00pm
Regular hours: 7:30am to 4:00pm
