Riverside Horizons
Open to Development Projects

Horizons ~ There is no larger undeveloped property closer to downtown Kansas City.
The Horizons property is open to exciting, new development opportunities. The Riverside Horizons development is approximately 800 acres of developable property, most of which is owned by the City.

This new site is highly desirable for commercial development due to Horizons' close proximity to Downtown Kansas City, the Kansas City International Airport and its superb access to major interstates and highways - all of which are significant factors in attracting cutting-edge development.

Flood protection
The Riverside Horizons project is located within the 500 year flood-protected area that the Corps of Engineers L-385 Levee System provides. The construction of this levee system was the first of many steps necessary to implement the required infrastructure for the Horizons project to become reality.

Interstate access
Improving transportation infrastructure is also required to attract development and private capital to the Horizons Project. The key to transportation for this project is the construction of a new diamond Interstate interchange at I-635 and Horizons Parkway. This interchange project is the catalyst to economic growth for the entire Horizons project.

What additional infrastructure is needed?
A great deal of infrastructure still needs to be developed. Internal transportation and utility systems that can support the magnitude of this project need to be developed. These projects include:
• New full diamond interchange of I-635
• Improvements to Missouri Highway 9
• Interior access roads including north/south access via Horizons Parkway
• A bridge fly-over the BNSF Railroad
• East/west connections to spur interior development
• Utilities and storm water management systems

What the Horizons Project offers
When looking at the economic impacts of this project, one quickly understands the positive impact on the City of Riverside, Platte County, the Kansas City Metro Area and the State of Missouri. Based upon the amount of development proposed within the project, Riverside Horizons has the potential of creating 10,000 jobs for the State of Missouri. Given the growing trends in high-end technological industries, this workforce will have a significant impact on local and state economies. Given its location, the Riverside Horizons project will not only be a workforce hub in the metro area, it has great potential to attract "new" jobs to the State of Missouri.

Power Outage 101

Who do I call?  If your power is out, please call KCPL at 1-888-544-4852 (1-888-LIGHTKC).  They will make note of the outage and respond as soon as possible.

Should I call the City or report it to 9-1-1 also? No.  City staff or the 9-1-1 operators are usually aware of the outage already.  Calling 9-1-1 may clog phone lines for those who need to report a true emergency.

But doesn’t the City have access to people at KCPL who can get it fixed faster?  Only for life-threatening situations.  City staff and 9-1-1 operators must report general power outages to KCPL like everyone else to the number that is provided above.
