Pharmaceutical Take-Back Event

The Riverside Police Department will collect unused or expired medications that include unwanted prescriptions; pet medications; medicine from deceased family members and unidentified pills on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Riverside Community Center, 4498 NW High Drive, Riverside, Missouri.

HOW DID THIS PROGRAM COME ABOUT?

The misuse of prescription drugs, including diversion, accidental poisoning, and overdose, has been increasing at an alarming rate. Nationally, an estimated 6.2 million people age 12 and older report having misused prescription drugs in the past month. One of the easiest ways individuals can help reduce this problem is to properly dispose of unused or expired medications. Studies have shown that a majority of prescription drugs are easily obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

Collect all used prescription and Over-the-Counter (OTC) medication from your home and drop them off for disposal on August 23rd. No questions will be asked.

Needles WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED

Illicit drugs, such as but not limited to marijuana, methamphetamine and heroin also will not be accepted.

While all personal labels on medication bottles will be removed and destroyed, you also can remove them to protect your privacy.

All of the collected medication will be taken to an incinerator for destruction.
