The City of Parkville issued a challenge to the City of Riverside in September to see which community would have the most participation in the October 1 Household Hazardous Waste: ABOP Event and the November 5 E-Waste and Paper Shred Event, both at EH Young Park. The cities joined together to co-sponsor these events as part of the Mid-America Regional Council Solid Waste Management District’s 2011 Recycling Challenge. In addition to hosting events like these, cities were encouraged to challenge one another in a Recycling Rivalry Challenge.
How You Can Help!
We are competing to see which city will have the most people participate in both of these events. Parkville is already ahead of Riverside by 10 people from the October 1 event, so gather your old electronics and paper to be shredded and head down to EH Young Park on November 5 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. It’s free to shred paper but there may be a cost to recycle some electronics. To help us keep the line moving, please bring no more than three boxes of paper to be shredded.
What’s At Stake
If the City of Riverside wins, Parkville Mayor Gerry Richardson will attend a Riverside Board of Aldermen meeting and sing a song about his love for Riverside. If Parkville wins, Riverside Mayor Kathy Rose will attend a Parkville Board of Aldermen meeting and do a cheer about how wonderful Parkville is.
