For all single-family Riverside residents, curbside recycling is another FREE service provided for you by the Public Works department of the City of Riverside.
Here's how to recycle.
All recyclables can be mixed together in a cart. This is known as “one stream recycling.” The City also provides a paper recycling bin and a bin for aluminum, cardboard and plastic on the Municipal Campus, 2950 NW Vivion Road.
What can be recycled?
Carts will have in-mold labeling on the lids to tell you what items can be trashed or recycled. The following items can be put in your cart:
Metals:
• Aluminum and metal food cans
• Aluminum trays and foil
• Steel cans and tins
Plastics:
• Soda, milk, water and flavored beverage bottles -- #1 clear and plastic resin
• HDPE detergent and fabric softener containers -- #2 color plastic resin
• PVC narrow neck containers: health, beauty products, household cleaners -- #3 plastic resin
• LDPE grocery containers: margarine tubs, frozen dessert cups --#4 plastic resin
• PP grocery containers: yogurt cups, syrup, ketchup bottles --#5 plastic resin
• Narrow-neck containers --#6 and #7 plastic resin grocer
Paper:
• Newspapers, including inserts
• Magazines, catalogs and telephone books
• Brown paper bags
• Office, computer, notebook and gift wrap paper
• Chipboard: cereal, cake and food mix boxes, gift boxes
• Carrier stock: soda and beer can carrying cases
• Junk mail and envelopes
• Paperback books (not hard cover books)
• Cardboard (no waxed cardboard)
Glass Recycling
The City has partnered with Ripple Glass to provide a glass recycling container on the Municipal Campus, 2950 NW Vivion Road. This container collects brown, green, blue and clear glass food and beverage containers. Please rinse containers but you do not need to remove the labels or separate the glass by color. Paper and Commingled Recycling Containers
The City provides a paper recycling bin and a bin for aluminum, cardboard and plastic on the Municipal Campus, 2950 NW Vivion Road. Catalogs, magazines, newspapers, junk mail, office paper, fax paper, school paper, notebooks and folders can be placed in the paper recycling bin. The commingled recycling bin will accept: aluminum (cans, foil and pans), plastic (#1-7), steel (food cans), cardboard (flattened corrugated, brown paper bags, and paperboard), and phone books
Household Hazardous Waste Collection
The City is a member of the Mid-America Regional Council’s Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program. As a result, Riverside residents can household hazardous waste to permanent collection facilities in Kansas City (4707 Deramus) or Lee’s Summit (2101 SE Hamblin Rd) free of charge with proof of residency. Residents may also drop off HHW products at any mobile collections events held throughout the year. Yard Waste Service
The City will now provide free curbside pick-up for leaf and brush eight times a year – four weeks in the fall and four weeks in the spring. Specific dates will be announced at least a month in advance on the City website and the newsletter.
Rules:
• Items for leaf and brush must be placed in paper biodegradable bags.
• Sticks must be put in bundles no bigger than 4 ft long by 2 ft wide.
• Leaf and brush pick-up will occur on Fridays with your regularly scheduled trash and recycling pick-up.
Yard Waste Facility Service
Residents can still take their yard waste to the Damon Pursell Yard Waste Facility, 6105 NW Riverpark Dr. Riverside, Mo., 816-304-3441, to be composted free of charge. Yard waste is not accepted at the Riverside Public Works Facility.
