Carts
Residents are provided with two 48 or 64 gallon carts for trash and recycling.
How It Works:
Bag Tags
If your trash cart is full and you need to put out additional bags of trash, bag tags can be purchased for $2 at City Hall. Bags must be less than 40 gallons and may not weigh more than 40 pounds. Trash outside of the bin will not be picked up without a bag tag. There is no charge for setting additional recycling out.
Extra Carts
Extra carts can be rented from Town and Country for $5.62. Please contact Town and Country directly for this service.
Schedule
Trash pick up day is Friday. Carts must be placed by the end of your driveway by 7 a.m. every Friday morning. Town and Country does not recognize holidays - Pick up will be every Friday no matter what! There will also be unlimited pick up after Christmas and the Fourth of July (does not include bulky items).
Yard Waste
Residents have two options to properly dispose of yard waste.
Curbside Service
The City will now provide free curbside pick-up for leaf and brush eight times a year – four weeks in the fall and four weeks in the spring. Specific dates will be announced at least a month in advance on the City website and the newsletter.
Rules:
• Items for leaf and brush must be placed in paper biodegradable bags.
• Sticks must be put in bundles no bigger than 4 ft long by 2 ft wide.
• Leaf and brush pick-up will occur on Fridays with your regularly scheduled trash and recycling pick-up.
Yard Waste Facility Service
Residents can still take their yard waste to the Damon Pursell Yard Waste Facility, 6105 NW Riverpark Dr. Riverside, Mo., 816-304-3441, to be composted free of charge. Yard waste is not accepted at the Riverside Public Works Facility.
Bulky Items
Residents have three options to properly dispose of their bulky items.
Public Works Facility
Bulky items, including household furniture and equipment can be taken to Public Works at 4200 N.W. Riverside, Riverside, MO 64150 and disposed of in the appropriate dumpster.
Tags
Residents may put their bulky items out on the curb with Friday morning pick-up, using tags. Bulky Item Tags can be purchased for $10 at City Hall. One tag is required per item and items must be set out with the rest of the trash and recycling for pick-up.
Bulky Item Express
The service is $50 per five items, including appliances and $20 for Freon items. You must call Town and Country directly and make an appointment to have your items picked up. This program is beneficial for people who are unable to get their items to Public Works.
Do I have to use the carts?
Yes. All trash and recycling must be placed inside the carts. Anything placed outside will not be collected unless it has a bag tag which can be purchased at City Hall for $2 each. You also have the option to rent an additional cart for $5.62 a month.
Do I have to use trashbags?
Yes. Trash must be bagged before being placed in carts. Recycling items, however, do not have to be bagged before being put in the cart.
What if I physically can’t push the carts to the curb?
Town and Country offers a front door pick-up service for trash and recyclables, so they will pick up the carts at your door. To qualify for this program:
• Residents must provide a doctor’s note to City Hall
• Residents cannot have an able body person living with them
What cannot be trashed or recycled curbside?
Items that cannot be accepted at this time are glass, plastic bags, motor oil, automotive product bottles, household hazardous waste containers, Styrofoam, hot ashes or cinders, shrub trimmings, yard trimmings, tree trunks or limbs, street sweepings, catch basin mulch, construction materials, appliances, large furniture, nothing with Freon or hazardous waste.
How do I get rid of glass?
The City has partnered with Ripple Glass to provide a glass recycling container on the Municipal Campus, 2950 NW Vivion Road. This container collects brown, green, blue and clear glass food and beverage containers. Please rinse containers but you do not need to remove the labels or separate the glass by color. For more details, visit www.rippleglasskc.com.
What if I need more than one cart?
You have the option to rent an additional cart for $5.62 a month by contacting Town and Country.
What do I do if my cart is lost or damaged?
Please contact the City Hall to report a cart theft or damage incurred during normal use. Damage from normal use will be repaired or replaced by Town and Country. Residents are responsible for damage from abuse such as hot coals, bricks, rocks, etc. In the event of a theft, a police report should be filed by the resident.
Can I take my cart with me if I move?
No. These carts are specifically for Riverside and should remain at the address.
I just moved in and I don’t have a cart. How do I get one?
Contact City Hall and notify Town and Country to establish your solid waste account. A cart will be delivered in 24 hours.
How are you going to keep items that are not picked up (oil, gravel, etc.) out of the trash?
Town and Country will observe the household trash as it’s dumped into the trucks. Any violations will be left and reported to the City for education and/or enforcement action.
Where can I store my carts?
Carts can be stored conveniently in your garage, the side of your house or backyard.
Where do I place my cart at the curb?
The carts should be placed within four feet of the curb. Carts should be readily accessible with no barriers such as a parked car in front of the carts.
Can I use my cart for yard waste?
No. You may participate in the City’s designated months for yard waste pick-up or take leaf and brush to the Damon Pursell Yard Waste Facility to be composted free of charge. Yard waste is no longer accepted at Public Works. When utilizing the City’s collection service, leaf and brush must be placed in a biodegradable paper bag. Sticks must be put in bundles no bigger than 4 feet long and 7 feet wide. Pick-up will occur on Fridays with your regularly scheduled trash and recycling pick-up.
Can I use both carts for trash?
No. One cart must be used for trash and the other cart has to be used for recycling.
What do I do with extra trash if my cart is full?
Town and Country will collect all extra trash outside the cart as long as each bag has a tag which can be purchased at City Hall for $2.
What items cannot be recycled curbside?
Items that cannot be accepted at this time are glass, plastic bags, motor oil, automotive product bottles, household hazardous waste containers, Styrofoam, hot ashes or cinders, shrub trimmings, yard trimmings, tree trunks or limbs, street sweepings, catch basin mulch, construction materials, appliances, large furniture, nothing with Freon or hazardous waste.
