Parks and Recreation Overview

Whether you enjoy biking, walking, running, picnicking or just kicking back and lounging, Riverside has a variety of beautiful parks for you to enjoy.  The Riverside Community Center is also home to a full-line up of recreation programs, most of which are FREE to the public!

Open Gym Hours
The Riverside Community Center offers open gym hours Monday-Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.

FREE Fitness Classes
Free fitness classes are available to both residents and visitors to the City at the Community Center each week. Yoga/Cardio/Strength class is Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 8 to 9:30 a.m., Senior Line Dancing and Weights is Monday and Thursday from 10 to 11 p.m., and Stay Strong, Stay Healthy class is on Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.

Senior Dances
Grab your dancing shoes and head to the Riverside Community Center the last Monday of the month for our FREE senior dance. This event is from 1 to 3 p.m. and features the Ed Smith Band.

Missouri Riverfront Trail
This 3.5 mile trail runs along the Levee top from EH Young Park to just east of the Riverside/Parkville city limit line. A great trail for both walkers and bikers, the Missouri Riverfront Trail is open daily from dawn to dusk.

Special Events
Riverside’s EH Young Park (next to the Argosy) is home to a variety of special events throughout the year, including the Scottish Highland Games June 10-12, BLAST Block Party June 18, Midwest All-Truck Nationals September 9-11 and Riverside Riverfest September 16-17. Healthy Citizens Initiative
The City of Riverside will pay 75% of the membership fees to the Platte County Community Center/YMCA, Gladstone Community Center and North Kansas City Community Center for its residents. Contact the Riverside Community Center at 741-4172 for more details on signing up.
